Gauvain

Page history last edited by Mycol 14 years, 7 months ago

Name: Gauvain Tarris

Height: 6'2"               Eyes: Green     Identfying Marks: Barbed Wire Tattoo's under his eyes.

Weight: 213 lbs         Hair: Brown

Personality: Gauvian tries to be freindly. The problem is he's still learning how to. He tries to do what is right, and it shows in his actions. He is a stickler for Honor, but throws it out the window if it would endanger innocents. He's a Soldier. He follows orders, and he fights the good fight. A better man to have at your side there really is none.

Background: (Alot of this is Public Knowledge)

Born to the house of Tarris in the Dukedom of Sendor, in the (then) unoccupied city of Galenthia. It was from here that a major offensive was being prepared and the majority of the Defensives for the unoccupied areas in the region were being planned. As such, the house of Tarris who ruled Galenthia oversaw it all and it was expected of Gauvain to grow and be schooled in Martial, Command, and Political fields.

The young Tarris saw his father, Tobias, very rarely. The older Tarris was always gone or over seeing the training of new conscripts in the defense of Sendor. It is this lack of fatherly attention that things began to take shape. The young man worked to impress his father. Doing what he could to excel at the areas he knew his father would be interested in. However the Lord Tobias Tarris mostly ignored his son, concentrating on the defense and ruling of his ancestral region. It wasn’t neglect. There was nothing he wanted more then to see to the raising of his children. It just wasn’t written in Fate.

Gauvain didn’t see it like that. He saw only his father being short and harsh with him. Everyone cow toeing to him and moving from point to point. Slowly the disgust and anger over it all slowly began to ferment in him.

He still did his duties. He still attended his studies. He still drilled with the troops and Militia of Galenthia. He still studied tactics and listened to lectures form sages on Diplomatic procedings. Still sat with the regent on public hearings. But it all meant nothing to him.

Somebody noticed these things in the young man. An agent from Bludgun sent to find a weakness in the region. The intrepid agent saw in Gauvain the wink link and struck. Offering the young man a chance to earn respect, power and prestige, a Sixteen year old Gauvain soaked it up. When the forces of the Ogre Magi struck at Galenthia, the young Lord Gauvain would open the Southern Gate and let the forces in. Leading the charge that would secure the area for his new greatful ruler.

When the attack came, Gauvain was leading troops at the Southern Gate. The Bludgun charged the southern gate and Gauvain kept his word. He slaughtered his own surprised men, and opened the gate with one swing of his Broadsword. He watched as the battle surged in through the city. Killing anything that resisted and enslaving the rest. He watched and categorized. His heart beginning the slow path to realization that this was NOT the right choice. However he stayed the coarse, and began his service with his new masters.

He served in the armies of the Bludgun for two years. He was even given command of a small unit of soldiers. Mostly Goblins and other like minded humans. He was successful in his endeavors, never loosing a battle. He saw so much death. So much enslavement that that tiny spark slowly ate at him until one day he witnessed a battle he could not ignore.

A paladin stood alone against his forces trying to defend a house with people screaming in terror inside. He was a terror to behold. Blade lashing, striking at his enemies. Drawing blood, and keeping them at bay. However he was tiring. He wouldn’t back down. He wouldn’t surrender. And suddenly Gauvain strode forward. His men stopped and watched as he drew his sword and turned his back on the Paladin. Who was also staring in surprise. He called out that this house, and this man would be spared. His men couldn’t believe it. His second in command called him a traitor and Gauvain answered calmly "Come see how much I’ve betrayed." It was then that the Bludgun charged the pair.

Again Gauvain battled and killed his own men. The pair, Paladin and Soldier knew they couldn’t win and eventually they were flanked and forced to retreat. To run. For the first time, Gauvain had lost a battle. He brooded and the pair, forced to travel watched each other’s backs. His companion saw in Gauvain’s eyes the glimmer of hope. He slowly began to talk to him. To slowly preach and convert the young man. For years Gauvain and the Paladin whose name was Tyrael Dawnblade, traveled together. They fought Bludgun and tried to do what they could to stem the tide in Sendor.

However, everywhere he went he felt the eyes on him. He felt the hate of the "Betrayer" on him as he went. He looked at maps and never saw locations of the enemy. He saw his home that he betrayed. Of his friends and family he killed. He looked at Galenthia on the map and hung his head. His companion who had become his mentor and friend since that day in front of the house saw in the man somebody who was determined to make amends and was wounded by what he had done. Quietly he removed his holy symbol, he could get another and placed it on the map. On Galenthia.

The whole world believes that becoming a Paladin is a bright flashing light, a spoken word from a god, or some holy experience that changes the soul. For Gauvain it was several long moments of silence. Just looking at the holy symbol alone in the room but with a map. Tyrael had left, and nobody knows what happened when he was alone. All they knew was that Gauvian left wearing the Holy Symbol with only his sword over his shoulder.

He’s been a Paladin for Four years, he’s done many good deeds. To many he is still The Betrayer. The man who gave Galenthia to Bludgun, who killed many and betrayed the Honor of the House of Tarris.

TV Tropes

Cluster F Bomb: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ClusterFBomb It's true. Gauvain is a Soldier who pretty much speaks like a front line soldier.                         Which is to say he tends to butcher language with colorful metaphors.

Heel Face Turn: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HeelFaceTurn Gauvain was a bad guy. He killed thousands, betrayed the entire nation of                        Sendor, and even helped in it's near total collapse by betraying Galenthia to the Bludgun. However he found his attrocities and is trying to                        atone for them. If he'll succed or not has yet to be seen.

Knight in Shining Armor: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KnightInShiningArmor He is a Knight. He tries to follow these virtues. While he is not                                     always successful as he is only Human with a colored past, he lives an attempt at living honorably.
